using letterpress to print directly onto 35 mm film stock. The printed elements – type\, borders and stereotypes – create a unique texture on screen as well as generating an original soundtrack. Poirier will explain how she explores the visual and the acoustic rhythm of typography through this animation process.\n\nShe will screen her latest film\, Setting West\, an abstract Western made with original printing materials from the late 19th and early 20th centuries (Honorable Mention\, Nashville Film Festival 2016). She is a professor at the École de design\, Université du Québec à Montréal\, as well as an experimental filmmaker\, book designer and letterpress practitioner. Her work centers on the use of typography and abstraction\, and through this exploration she has developed an animation technique that employs an aleatoric approach to letterpress printing and sound production. Her films have been screened at numerous international festivals. She also directed La chose imprimée\, a collaborative project investigating the book as a space for design experimentation.
