“Tratti di carattere”. From Script fonts to calligraphy is a truly original calligraphy workshop, that combines two meticolous passions of Giuliano Bocchi: typography and calligraphy.

Starting from existing typefaces, the workshop proposes an itinerary that, through the use and the study of brush lettering, will lead to the essence of letters.

In this way, will be suggested a method to observe, under a calligraphic point of view, the defined and constant shapes of typography, taking them back into a fluid, flexible and customizable experimental environment.

Each participant can experience the possibilities offered by the use of a brush in formal writings.

The workshop is open to everybody, useful both for those who want to approach calligraphy and for those who already cultivates this passion.

Materials to bring*
– ½ inch flat brush or N. 14 (like Borciani and Bonazzi Unico Mangusta, Winsor&Newton, Da Vinci)
– Tempera/gouache colours (1 or 2 dark colour)
– 60 cm ruler
– Soft pencile
– Paper scotch
– Water container with flat bottom
– Scottex or rag
– Brush soap (opthional)

*The paper will be given at the workshop.

Giuliano Bocchi works as a graphic designer at the University of Padua. He has an art background and worked in the photography field.  In 2012 he approache the world of calligraphy and was definely seduced. In 2017 he started to lead brush calligraphy workshops.
